- These stations literally are "all talk, all the time." While most will have very fine news departments, news is not the most important thing. Programs may cover a wide range of subjects.
- News Talk Radio Stations
- News/Talk stations aim for more of a balance between news coverage and call-in talk shows. This balance may shift as major news stories break and then fade.
- Full Service Talk Radio Stations
- While the programming on these stations is primarily talk, it covers a wide variety of topics. In addition, they will carry sports events and special events such as air shows. There may be more of an emphasis on public affairs and community based programming. A host may even play a record now and then, but not very many or very often.
- Sports Talk Radio Stations
- As well as talking about local and national sports stories, these stations often carry the local professional, college and even high school sporting events.
- Specialized Talk Radio Stations
- While stations often may focus on all politically oriented talk shows, these stations choose very individual niches.
